RIDERS
Ethan Barkley
We've been told Canucks were only good for hockey and ice fishing, but after watching Ethan Barkley, we might want to add drag racing to that. The six-time Canadian Champion and Calgary native is a full-on G-force fool and he's got the trophies to prove it.
It came together the usual way for EB: spending his youth riding dirt bikes, he didn't catch the street bike bug until his 20s, when he took a buddy's Magna V65 out for a spin. The love affair with Japanese metal was on, and a Kawasaki ZX7 was soon sitting in his garage, followed shortly after by a 2001 GSX-R1000. Pretty soon he was regularly smoking the competition at his local track; as Barkley tells it, "the power was intoxicating." He now wrenches on and rides GSX-Rs and Hayabusas with the EB Speed team, setting records along the way. Ethan says he's definitely a speed junkie: "the feeling of accelerating always puts a smile on my face."
We saw that grin a lot in 2005, when he won all seven events in the series for a perfect season. Ultimately though, Barkley says he'd like to make it to the Big Show: "I would love to compete in the AMA Drag Bike Series and win the championship."
Stay tuned...
