The Mangler
1999 KTM 300EXC
We bought this bike in 2002 in order to build the most ridiculous of SuperMotards. The problem is that we went too far – this bike is by far the most serious machine we have ever ridden. In a flat out sprint she’ll beat an Aprilia SVX550. She’s got an extremely low center of gravity which feels like your flicking around a BMX bike. And she absolutely positively will not tolerate indecision or incompetence.
Now for the specifics – The bike was stripped down to the frame and powdercoated textured black. Same goes for the subframe and swingarm. The motor was built, as all two-strokes should be built, with a good deal of brute force and ignorance. The suspension was professionally lowered by the KTM factory supercross mechanics in El Cajon, CA (thanks guys). The wheelsets were custom built in the UK by Central wheel – they are Morad rims and custom spokes laced to stock powder coated KTM hubs. The front brake is a Braking Supermoto 4 pot caliper with custom aluminum mount. The front rotor is a 320mm Braking wave rotor. The exhaust is a full FMF system.
- Braking 4 piston SM caliper
- Braking 320mm wave rotor
- FMF Silencer/pipe
- Professionally lowered WP Suspension (2″ Front, 1.5″ Rear)
- Custom Morad aluminum 3.5×17 front wheel
- Custom Morad aluminum 5.5×17 rear wheel
- Newer Pirelli MT60RS tires
- New bearings/bushings/pivots/seals/etc
- K&N Airfilter
- RK Gold Chain
- Renthal Sprockets
- Moose Fatbars
- Scott steering damper
- Scott Billet triple clamp
- Acerbis Handguards
- Acerbis Headlight
- Acerbis SM Fender
- Endurance digital speedo/odometer
- Powder coated frame/subframe/swingarm
- Fastway wide platform footpegs
One more thing – she’s for sale. We’ve had our fun with “The Mangler”, but fear of dying forces sale.
