I was traveling over a hill on a one lane road, with a double yellow line, when I noticed two vehicles had stopped in the road. I started to apply brakes right before I realized I wouldn’t be able to stop because I would have become a passenger in the rear vehicle. With the oncoming lane clear for as far as I could see, I got off of the brakes and I decided to swerve to go around the vehicles. I passed the first vehicle just fine, and the front vehicle had no brake lights or turn signals working on the rear. She unfortunately turned left, across the double yellow lines, heading into a driveway. I had no idea she was turning. I had just enough reaction time to try to swerve, so I did not T-bone her, but yet side swiped her truck going roughly 60mph. I lost control of the bike, of course, and my passenger and I went flying. The passenger slid down the road about 20-30 feet. According to a witness, I flew through the air, roughly 60 feet after hitting a small hill. The witness said I was as high as the power lines and doesn’t know how I was able to get up after my short flight. I blacked out from the initial hit, so I don’t really know what happened.
My passenger suffered more road rash than I did because she was wearing only normal clothes (northface jacket, jeans, VANS shoes). We both had helmets and gloves. Attached are pictures of my bike after it was brought to a shop, and of my ICON leather jacket, which undoubtedly, saved me from a lot. I should be bruised twice as bad, but nothing is even sore when it comes to my upper body. In the pictures, you can see where the front part of the shoulders are scuffed up, and a small scuff on the bottom right side of the back (which is where my road rash is). Aside of that, the jacket is in near perfect condition. I’m just glad we are OK, and that jacket really saved me. Who knows how beat up I would of been if I were in anything else, or just wearing a t-shirt like most sport bike riders do.
Again, thank you for making such a quality product, and thank you for being interested in my story. I will never wear anything other than ICON from this day forward- you made a believer out of me!!
